Cat Care
How to keep your cat purring

Are you ready to welcome a cat into your home?

To help you, here are some items you will need to get you started:

  • Bowls or dishes for food and water. Don’t use bowls from a previous cat, as your new cat may not want to use them!
  • Food. Always check what food your cat is used to and continue the same diet. You can always change it gradually later if you want.
  • Litter tray and cat litter. There are many different types available. Again check what type your cat has been used to as some cats can be very fussy about this!
  • Toys. All cats enjoy playing with toys and teasers, whatever their age! It is also a good way of bonding with your new pet.
  • Pet Carrier. For visits to the vet and for going on holiday.

Do remember to register your new cat with a local vet as soon as possible and always keep their vaccinations up to date. We would advise you to take out pet insurance as vet treatment can be very expensive.

Also check out local cat boarding establishments and be prepared to book up early with them especially during school holiday periods!

Take time to give your cat attention and groom it regularly. Not only will your cat enjoy the experience, it will give you a chance to check for any parasites or lumps and swellings that may need the attention of your vet.

Owning a cat can be very rewarding. By following these few basic steps, you will ensure you have a happy, healthy family pet.
